Responding Through Visual Art

Action

  1. Have an oral review session of the play.
  2. Ask open questions: What did you see? What did you hear? What did you feel? What did you think? To encourage feedback and a better discussion validate answers only
    by repeating them. E.g child - “ I saw a train”, teacher “a train” then ask did anyone else see a train? What made you think it was a train?
  3. When the class has discussed the show orally ask them to imagine an image from the show that they remember or that they enjoyed.
  4. Encourage them to think about the detail in the image.
  5. As they are creating their review pictures you have an opportunity to ask them about their image and why they chose that one. It is important that you don’t try to guess what is in the image as this might sway the children to agreeing with your guess.
  6. When the work is finished the children could put their image in the centre of the group and tell the rest of the children why they chose that image.
  7. We at Branar would also really like to read the reviews, go to the REVIEW LOCKER in the Staff Quarters for more information about how to send us your images and reviews, to then be posted on the website.

Extension

Find ways of linking the children’s images to the history curriculum around 1916. This will be a valuable way into new discussion or a way of reviewing information they already know.

  1. Déan léirmheas ó bhéal den taispeántas mar ghrúpa.

  3. Nuair atá an taispeántas pléite ó bhéal ag an rang, fiafraigh dóibh íomhá ón dtaispeántas a sheas amach dóibh nó a thaitin leo a shamhlú.
  4. Spreag iad chun cuimhneamh ar shonraí na híomhá.
